Thanksgiving Workshops offer unique, limited experiences similar to our traditional paid single-session educational programs designed to introduce practical skills, techniques, and workflows of leading Technology, Entertainment, and Media industries. Student learning is collaborative, hands-on, and project-based, providing them full creative control of their own exploration, design, and project development.

A 1-hour lunch break is built into the schedule for students. Students are responsible for bringing their own lunch, beverages, and snacks.

Video games use physics to achieve realistic behavior and simulate natural phenomena to create believable and immersive environments and interactions, thus enhancing the player experience. In this workshop, students will learn the basics of physics (such as matter and its motion through space and time) and will apply them by adjusting the values of physical parameters, such as the amount of gravity present, to create intended behaviors of characters and objects within the GameMaker Game Engine. Students will familiarize themselves with Mass and Friction, do some math, and see how these concepts work in the real world.

3D Modeling is used throughout entertainment-driven industries to create memorable characters and environments. However, its use does not stop there, spanning many industries and academic programs. In this workshop, students will learn the fundamentals of this 3D art in a free program, SOLIDWORKS Apps for Kids. They will use 3D art fundamentals such as translation, scale and rotate and will break down complex objects into simple, primitive shapes. At the end of the day, students will walk away with three-dimensional models produced in creative ways and the skills sets to continue practicing 3D modeling at home.
